In the televised video, we see Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi speaking live with NBC News from Tehran. In the interview, Abbas Araghchi argues that the United States cannot force regime change in Iran, calling the idea “mission impossible.”

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is still alive "as far as I know," the country's foreign minister said in an exclusive interview with NBC News. Speaking live after the joint strikes by the U.S. and Israel, Abbas Araghchi said two commanders had died, but senior officials in the regime had survived the joint strikes by the U.S. and Israel.

Why this interview matters

  • This interview captures Iran’s official stance during a rapidly escalating conflict.
  • It also reveals how Iran plans to project strength and stability despite international pressure.
  • It further highlights the widening gap between official Iranian messaging and public sentiment, especially among Iranians commenting online.
