Pastor (Dr.) Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, recently represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at Nsit Atai in Akwa Ibom State for the flag-off of the 65km 3-lane dual carriageway of Nigeria's gigantic construction of a 750km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

For background, the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway under development is planned to run from Victoria Island, Lagos State, to Calabar in the Cross River State of Nigeria. The highway will crisscross through many states, including Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom State, before ending in Calabar. The massive construction project is intended to connect the western and south-eastern regions of the country and to improve cross-country road and railway connectivity, and to enhance trade relations.

Minister Engr. David Umahi and Gov. Umo Eno
share pleasantries during the flag off.
The overall supervision of the construction project is headed by the Nigerian Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, who is being charged with the diligent efforts towards the qualitative execution of the strategic coastal highway project. The superhighway is funded and constructed by HiTech Construction Company under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. According to the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, the completed project would promote tourism, have industrial clusters including hotels, factories, housing estates, and several other facilities.

During the Akwa Ibom Nsit Atai flag-off of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Dr. Umo Eno thanked President Tinubu for the bold and visionary construction project, indicating that Akwa Ibom, being a coastal state, "is grateful to be a beneficiary of this life-changing infrastructure."

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Akwa Ibom State is under construction.
The massive road construction project is supposed to unlock great economic development opportunities, link previously unreachable communities, bolster interstate commerce, and create jobs for Akwa Ibom people. The governor encouraged Akwa Ibom youths to maintain peace and support the work of the contractors doing the massive construction. He also assured Akwa Ibomites who are affected by the construction that the federal government would compensate them once funds are released.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, during his flag-off remarks, indicated his administration's full support to the federal government to ensure the timely completion of the highway and noted that God will grant President Tinubu the strength to deliver on this great vision.
